Khalil Rabah

»Area C Fields of Gold (Map)«, 2017

Khalil Rabah shows a map of Palestine. The areas covered with nails are the so-called "Area C areas" - areas under full Israeli control. These "Area C" areas now cover more than 60 per cent of the West Bank and are heavily contested. Rural in nature, the areas once formed the backbone of Palestinian agriculture. Today, under total Israeli control, Palestinians are not allowed to build or develop there. For more than 5 million people, free movement, flow of goods, economic activity and travel are not possible. The areas under Palestinian self-administration as "Area A", on the other hand, are now largely separated from each other and appear to be a patchwork quilt.
