Julius von Bismarck lässt in der Videoarbeit »Fire with Fire« die magische Kraft des Feuers und die Faszination, ja eigentlich die Schönheit von Waldbränden lebendig werden. Der hypnotische Sog des Feuers stellt für Julius von Bismarck ein »Tor zum Jenseits« dar. Von Bismarck hat seine Aufnahmen mit einer hochauflösenden Kamera erzeugt und er nutzt ein einfaches Mittel, um ihnen eine magisch-überraumzeitliche Dimension zu verleihen: er spiegelt sie in der Mittelachse. Durch die Symmetrie bewegen sich die Flammen entweder zur Mitte hin oder aus der Mitte heraus und hypnotisieren den Betrachter geradezu. Immer wieder erscheinen ornamentale Muster die an Dämonen und Geister erinnern. Die Natur scheint von Urkräften durchdrungen, die aus ihr herausbrechen und uns ergreifen können. Die Zerstörungskraft von Waldbränden erscheint apokalyptisch. Sie stehen als Synonym für das Anthropozän und den Klimawandel. Julius von Bismarck ästhetisiert den Brand und löst ihn gleichzeitig aus klischeebeladenen Vorstellungen heraus.

In the video work "Fire with Fire", Julius von Bismarck brings to life the magical power of fire and the fascination, indeed the beauty, of forest fires. The hypnotic pull of fire represents a "gateway to the beyond" for Julius von Bismarck. Von Bismarck created his photographs with a high-resolution camera and he uses a simple device to give them a magical supra-space dimension: he mirrors them in the central axis. The symmetry causes the flames to move either towards or away from the centre, virtually hypnotising the viewer. Ornamental patterns reminiscent of demons and spirits appear again and again. Nature seems to be permeated by elemental forces that can burst out of it and seize us. The destructive power of forest fires appears apocalyptic. They are synonymous with the Anthropocene and climate change. Julius von Bismarck aestheticises the fire and at the same time releases it from cliché-laden notions.
